Have you always wondered howto make a cake in a microwave?
If yes, then you, my friendare in the right place.
Hi, my name is Shivesh.
I'm a baker, author andthis is my How-To series.
This is the ultimatebeginner's guide
to getting yourbaking basics right.
I'll be talking about everything...
from whipping cream tochocolate ganache, caramel...
and so much more!
In this video, I'm talking A to Zof baking a cake in a microwave.
You could do it on two modes:
either the convection modeor the heating mode.
I'll come tothe heating mode later.
But let's start talkingabout the convection mode.
Also, I'm using this microwave.Yours could be different.
It could functionslightly differently.
But you could usethis as the basic guide
of baking a cake in a microwave.
So, whenever you're makinganything in the microwave,
as a general rule, always startby pressing the "Stop/Eco" button,
which erases all yourprevious cooking instructions
and helps you start from scratch.
Once that is done, you needto preheat your microwave.
So, remember, wheneveryou shift to the convection mode...
your microwave basicallystarts functioning like an oven.
So, preheating becomes important,so that when the dish goes in
your microwave is alreadyat the baking temperature.
To preheat the microwave, I'm goingto place the wire rack inside it
and then press the "Convection" button, which comes with a small fan symbol.
As soon as you pressthe convection button
your display screen woulddisplay the temperature.
So, by default it is 180°C.
You could use the arrow keys
to either increase ordecrease the temperature.
The maximum that mymicrowave goes to is 200°C.
Yours could be more or less.
Usually, for all my baking, especially for cakes in a microwave
I keep the temperaturefixed to 180°C.
So, once you set the temperature,
you need to immediatelypress the "Start" button.
For preheating, you donot need to enter the time
because the microwavewould automatically stop
once it reaches 180°C.
Once you press thestart button, you will see
that the hot plate startsrotating along with the wire rack
and your display screen would readeither "heating" or "preheating."
Once it's done, you'llhear a "ting" sound.
So, one very importantthing to remember here is
that your microwave willretain that 180°C temperature
for only ten minutes.
After which it will start coolingdown and losing the heat.
So, once you hear that ting, ideally, you should be ready with your cake batter.
This is when you open themicrowave and pop your cake in.
And now you'll have todo the entire process again.
You need to press theconvection button again,
and also set the temperature.
But this time, you'll also need to enter the time.
You could use the arrow buttonsto increase or decrease the time.
I'm setting my time at35 minutes for this cake
and then press the start button.
If you're baking cakes in a microwave, another thing that you need to note
is that whatever time yourcake is taking in the OTG
it would take 7.5 minuteslesser in a microwave.
So, remember to set your time accordingly.
Once your cake is ready, youneed to press the "Stop" button.
Remember to not switch offthe microwave from the outlet
because this is when the coolingprocess of the microwave would start.
You will hear the motor running whichmeans the microwave is cooling down.
And that process is very importantfor the well-being of your microwave.
Well, what do you do if your microwavedoesn't have a convection mode?
Do not worry because you canstill make a cake in a microwave
on the regular heating mode.
So, in the convection mode
it is safe to use your metal and youraluminium bakeware and the wire rack
but please remember, that for the heating mode
you can only use microwave-safe
glassware or silicon ware, because...
putting the metal in at thispoint could be super dangerous.
Also remember that your cake wouldonly take about five to seven minutes
on the regular heating mode.
I'd also like you guys to knowthat this cake could be slightly dry
but what you could do to fix it,
is to soak your cake insugar syrup and it will be fine.
I used my eggless vanilla cake recipe
to make this cake in the microwave today.
I'll leave the link for it inthe description box below.
In fact, you could use any recipefrom my website: bakewithshivesh.com
